Dull vs. Sharp

A closer look

Have you ever wondered what a dull tool looks like…really close?

We have taken a few pictures of some spiral bits before and after service using a Macro lens on a digital camera. It is clear in most of the “before” photos what a dull tool looks like. It’s the dull grey rounded edge. The comparison is the nice sharp edge after service.

Great Advice I Received…”Listen”

One of the best pieces of  advice I have ever received was to listen more, talk less. Great advice when dealing with kids, spouses, suppliers and customers.

Lets focus on the customers and suppliers, the other could take a long time…..

Quality and Value vs Low Price

We lost a customer recently. Not something we ever want to do, particularly in this economy. We simply did. Like every company, we provide a product or service at a price that we feel is fair and the market will support.

The customer mentioned wanted to order a particular item. When quoted, he stated he could get the “same” item from XYZ Company for significantly less. Knowing the quality of our products, we were surprised that the customer could get the “same” item at the price point mentioned. He asked us to match the price and we declined.

What’s Next?

Stone, carbon steel, heat treated steel, carbide, synthetic diamond, natural diamond….the basic evolution of the cutting tool. Not alot has changed recently. PCD or man made (synthetic) diamond manufacturing was first attempted in the 1800′s and was commercially available in the 1950′s. It appeared for the first time on a woodworking tool at the 1975 Ligna show in Germany.  Now, almost every production woodworking company has at least one diamond tool. It’s not really “new”.
